A note about photos…
Sometimes a picture being worth only a thousand words just doesn’t cut it.
My concern is that, with decorating magazines and TV shows priming us for dramatic, “ta-da” transformations of spaces, photographs of organizing projects might get a reaction of: “Oh… looks like they tidied up a bit.”
With organizing, however, the physical changes captured by film are only the tip of the iceberg.
“Before and after” photos are cool, but they cannot fully illustrate the process my clients undergo - a thoughtful consideration and evaluation of goals, environments, and belongings - nor can pictures express the feelings my clients experience - most often, relief and renewal. In other words, there’s more in these photos than meets the eye.
When you look at “before” shots, keep this in mind: the stuff you see there has accumulated… items have been shoved, shelved, kept around and then forgotten about… the contents of boxes are often unknown… and the general feeling is one of frustration or a kind of failure.
In contrast, the “after” shots show environments where each item in the room is there by choice… the contents of every container and drawer is known and stored for maximum convenience… and the general feeling in the room is now one of empowerment and peace.
Each of my clients determines their own financial and aesthetic approach to form vs. function. Photos are just another way to emphasize there is light at the end of an organized tunnel.
